Introduction to Maytag Portable AC Units

As is the case with the majority of portable air conditioning units, Maytag units have both major fans as well as some vocal detractors. More on Portable Air Conditioners

Portable air conditioners are popular because they offer the ability for individuals to cool down their homes and cut down on the heavy humidity of summer months even if your living area doesn't have the conventional windows that you need for a window unit. Many homes and apartment buildings, even ones that really aren't all that old, don't have central air conditioning units and because of that a portable unit can be good for an entire living area or just for one really important room or two that is in use for the majority of the day. One very important distinction to make is that an air conditioner is NOT the same thing as an air cooler.  This goes with Maytag air conditioners or air conditioners by any other company which is why it's very important to pay attention to these details.  Most people who are looking for a portable Maytag air conditioner want just that, not an air cooler.  More on this important topic below.

Air Conditioners Versus Coolers

Before signing off on any Maytag model, you need to double check to make sure it is an air conditioner versus an air cooler in most cases. What's the difference? The biggest difference between the two is that conditioning units actually deal with sucking humidity out of the air while cooling all the air it is putting out.  An air cooler cools the air, but it does not suck the excess humidity out of the air.  So in a dry and hot climate an air cooler might work fine, but it won't be nearly as effective as a portable air conditioning unit in a humid and hot climate since the humidity can make the heat feel even worse than it already is.  This small detail can make a huge difference, and so you want to be able to tell if an exact appliance is a conditioner versus a cooler because for most people a Maytag air conditioner is a much better choice than the equivalent air cooler.
